One of our favorite couples, Kelsey and Brett, were as cute as buttons and tied the knot at a beloved venue, Brookview Ranch. A few months later, this gorgeous property was ravaged by the devastating fires that hit Malibu and surrounding towns. The staff and owners were kind; the greenery, stables, and animals all beautiful; and it had that relaxed atmosphere people dream about when they envision California weddings. We hope for the best on their road to restoration.

About our couple, Kelsey and Brett—we are always sad when we bond with our clients and the event ends—Kelsey hails from Oregon while Brett grew up in La Jolla. These two met at USC, which also played a role in their wedding, and Kelsey actually works at the university post-grad.

Their courtship was not instant. In fact, they ran closely in the same circles, but Brett was dating Kelsey’s roommate while Kelsey was seeing someone else. They even double-dated at one pointed, but they grew to know each other over time. Rest assured their relationship started off on the most innocent of terms only after the roommate and Brett’s relationship faded away. Time marched on and many, many moons later these two realized they enjoyed each other’s company so much that they began dating.

Flash forward to the proposal. They took annual ski trips, and this one in particular which coincided with Kelsey’s birthday. They usually don’t stack celebrations, so Kelsey gleefully went along assuming this was about her birthday exclusively; unbeknownst to Kelsey, Brett had other plans. Kelsey was still more of a beginner skier, but improving. Brett thought she could concur a run from the top of the mountain (she had never done this before)—and he planned on proposing there. There was a storm recently though, and the top was closed foiling his grand plan. Instead, he picked the top of a fun run when he called her over she thought she would have to slalom through trees—creating a bit of panic in her. Still attached to his snowboard, Brett said to Kelsey, “I know this is supposed to be done on one knee, but..." The whole thing was captured on a friend’s GoPro they had, and the unsuspecting Kelsey accepted joyfully.

When it came time for getting married, they planned an elegant affair for an outdoor summer wedding. With gorgeous landscape and idyllic views at the top of the mountain, Kelsey and Brett hosted a romantic event with the help of their amazing wedding planner Christine from CM Weddings & Events in a soft color palette of ice blues and white that was chic and dreamy. Kelsey was a stunning bride, we call her our “supermodel”—appearing as if she walked off the runway in perfect frame. Brett fell in love that much more when witnessing his angelic bride walk down the aisle with her dad. They wed on the lawn at Brookview in a gorgeous ceremony before their loved ones. Kelsey and Brett sweetly shed tears as they read their vows to one another and expressed their commitment in front of family and friends. P.S. — We always love an emotional groom on the wedding day.

It was also a wedding filled with fun and glee. At cocktail hour guest played fun lawn games sporting their Trojan pride—something important and symbolic to their relationship. What we loved about Kelsey when we had her design meeting is she wanted a lounge area for the older guests attending the wedding like grandparents. She was consistently considerate and thoughtful of everyone she came into contact with. Lounges are fun ways for your guests to relax, enjoy cocktails, and interact while feeling cozy just like at home.

Kelsey, Brett, and their guests had a blast at the wedding. Everyone let loose on the dance floor with entertainment provided by Vox DJs. They held a romantic reception with the wedding colors woven throughout, rustic farm tables, and string lights. The cake was elegant, and the couple shared their first taste of it in the most delicate of ways. They also enjoyed belly-laughing toasts by the bridal party and family. The guests and the couple danced the night away, cherished the time spent with family and friends basking in their love, and started their life together as a married couple on that summer day. Their wedding was beautiful, romantic, and fun with unique lawn games—everything a couple could want.
